Closing the week

I had to throw this up here (the current Running2Win.com Top 20)... not to show that I'm sitting #2, or that I've logged 115 miles in the last 7 days (I've been #1 for periods of time before and have logged 115 miles in 7 days before). But simply because, although tied with Fredo (aka kieserbigcat), I am clearly ahead of him!
If you know Fredo at all, you know this will absolutely haunt him until he runs more than me tomorrow (which he will... he'll run 13-15 miles probably, and I will happily settle for 7 miles to close the week at 110).
Oh, the meaningless fun we have to ensure motivation to get out the door!
* Monday kicks off my official 'Coach for Cash' training for the National Marathon. Coach Moody got me the updated program today with some slight tweaks and the addition of my racing schedule (which is now posted in the right hand column of this blog).
* As I go through more and more running data from 2009, I noticed that I had 38 runs start after 8:30pm... and of those 38, 14 started after 9:15pm. Do I like running at night, no... I actually can't stand it.
But, the reason this has been so commonplace is simple... I have one rule, if I double, my second run can't happen until TJ is in bed - and his bedtime is typically right around 8:30 each night. It's not fair to Hannah, and that's not fair to TJ if I put my training (especially my second runs) ahead of our evening family time.
However, looking at this... that's why I don't buy when people use 'lack of time' as an excuse not to put the work in. If something is important enough, time can be made and training can be achieved.
But it's an easy excuse, and most people like to talk big, and then exit stage left before they have to toe the line and 'show and prove'.

Accountability. A term I like very much, but need to integrate more with my running. Side note, if humans took this term and actually believed in it, our world would be much better off.
"...that's why I don't buy when people use 'lack of time' as an excuse..." Couldn't agree more. I made it through an IM on (mostly) 5 - 7 AM, 12 - 1 PM, and 9 - midnight training. Many think of "want" as "you either want it or you don't" but it doesn't work that way. Wanting to run a marathon is not always the same as wanting to run a marathon so much that we're willing to run tired in the dark with sub-freezing temperatures day after day. Best to sort out which things in life we want badly enough that we're willing to sacrifice for and focus on those.
