Track... and Road

Hit the track tonight for the first time in a very long time... at least 8 months if I'm remembering correctly, and coupled with being back on the track for a workout... it was 400s nonetheless... a recipe for disaster, but a recipe I need to be force fed at this point.
I meet up with Fredo, Frankie, and Gibbons at Fairview... the prescribed workout was 12 x 400 in 70-72 pace with 400m jog recovery, 800m jog after 6, so I figured I would head up to meet them and attempt to hang on as long as possible. Goal was 8.
Despite 70 second 400m pace being 'foreign', uncomfortable, and seemingly unnatural to my body... the workout itself went pretty well and I made it through 10 - much to my surprise. Then, after a 800m jog, it worked out as Fredo caught up to me 100m before his last repeat, so I went along on his #12 to give him some company on the last one.
So all in all I did 11 x 400m, hit the goal pace (mostly 71s and 70s, with a 69, 67, 64 last 3), and felt a bit better as the workout progress. My legs seemed to remember what turnover and track rhythm are all about.
Still a long way to go, but this first attempt on the track was a solid test with a positive result.
* So as I noted in yesterday's post, I just got a pair of the Adidas AdiZero Rocket... so I wore them for today's workout, and I will say - they are everything I was hoping hey would be. Great shoe across the board and it is essentially the AdiZero PR with just an ounce more of cushion - great flat!
* Looking at my calendar, from now until Christmas is going to be absolutely crazy. Sunday I leave for 4 days to North and South Carolina - getting back Wednesday night, just in time for Thanksgiving. I am then home for a week before heading out for a 3 day trip to Springfield, Mass. I then will be home for one day, then back on the road for 4 days to South Carolina. Then, to wrap it up - unless something else pops up in the meantime, I will be back in Charlotte Monday and Tuesday of the week of Christmas.
So in the next 30 days, 11 will end with me resting my head on a hotel pillow.
