The Journey

It's late and we've arrived in Richmond, VA and unfortunately so has what's left of Tropical Storm Ida. For hours now it has been raining sideways and the winds are brutal.
But it's only Thursday night... by all noted accounts, Saturday morning should be decent... not ideal mind you, but considering the weather now, we'll settle for decent.
Here's the latest from the Richmond Marathon website:
* So here we are, 1 day, then race day..
Since Hannah debuted at 26.2 miles and crossed the line in Chicago (2005) in 2:57:32 it has been a ridiculous route to back to this point.
This training block of 9 weeks to cram to get ready for Richmond reminds me of pulling an all-nighter in college to prep for a big exam. Not exactly the preferred method, but sometimes, due to all the other circumstances, it's the 'only' logical plan.
Even within the last 9 weeks, Hannah has had some major road blocks. She had to bag the Columbus 1/2-marathon, had an injury that kept her from running 5 days (only 4 weeks ago) - which is still lingering - and has only raced once in several months... a 5-miler in September.
None of this has been ideal... but Hannah has never asked for ideal... she just asks for a chance to toe the line.
Here's a quick run down, which doesn't do the journey justice, but at least points out some of the noteworthy roadblocks:
- Knee surgery #1 in January 1998
- Knee surgery #2 in June 1998
- Knee surgery #3 in May 2004
- Chicago October 2005 (2:57:32)
- TJ was born November 2006
- Knee surgery #4 in December 2006
By the way... the knee surgeries - 3 on one knee, 1 on the other.
And this list does not included the other injuries she has endured... most of them significant, yet when compared to 4 major knees surgeries, it's tough for them to make a case to be noted.
Added to that, here's the 'long' list of races that she's run since Chicago 2005: 8 total... one 10k, one 5-miler, one 4-miler and five 5ks. I may be forgetting one at best.
That's the journey Hannah has taken to toe the line on Saturday. So when compared to all that... Saturday's 26.2 mile journey can be considered a worthy reward regardless of result.

Here's the latest from the Richmond Marathon website:
The impacts of this week’s huge storm will be mostly gone by Saturday. There is a chance of some leftover light rain or mist early Saturday, with slowly clearing skies through the day. Expect a NNW breeze at 10mph or less, with humidity a little higher than most runners like. It won’t be oppressive but I think we can count OUT a crisp, dry air mass on Saturday. 7am: 47*, 10am: 52*, Noon: 59*, HIGH: 63*
