Closing in on Richmond

Thursday, November 5, 2009

I got another solid mileage day in today. I did a morning run with Brian Gibbons (one of the college 'kids') and then in the evening, I joined Head for her final MP workout.

The workout was simple, 2 mile warmup, 6 miles at Goal MP (marathon pace), 2 mile cooldown. All went according to plan and although she didn't feel as smooth as one would want (pretty standard with the race looming 8 days away), she cruised to average about 10 seconds faster per mile than race pace.

Typically, as a 'coach', I'm a stickler for hitting the pace prescribed for the workout... but as the saying goes 'the hay is in the barn', so today was more about a final tuneup of confidence, not fitness.

* Looking ahead to the rest of the week... I would like to top out just over 70 miles and on Saturday, do either a 5k 'fitness test' or stick with my weekly progression and do 7 x 1k with 1:00 jog recovery. It'll be a last minute toss up - but either way I'm optimistic (amazing compared to how I felt exactly a week ago) with how the training is coming along.

* I know I've noted this about a year ago, but be on the lookout for some new features making their way to this blog. No clues or hints, but I'm always looking for ways to generate some discussion and comments on here...and hopefully some of the new additions will help do that.

Also, if you want to see something posted, talked about, etc., please drop me a line and we'll make it happen.

* Timothy

CDR,

I'll get cracking on that.

Best of luck this weekend at OBX.
