Free agent

Most fans have no perspective – especially Cleveland fans.

Andy Varejao is now an unrestricted free agent... that was the obvious scenario. However, Cleveland fans in general seem to be shock that Varejao turned down $6.2 million from the Cavs.

Please understand, a chance at an NBA title is nice, but the difference between $6.2 million and possible $10-11 million A YEAR is generational money.

Stop being so naive, it’s a business… first, second, and third. Then, maybe a sport, but even that's a stretch, pro ‘sports’ being considered a ‘sport’ may not even rank in the top 10 of what it actually is.

The market is ripe for Andy this summer… no superstar free agents, just a bunch of solid players, so he can capitalize on his market value now more than ever. The window in pro sports is tiny, very, very tiny - especially if you're a glorified role player with no offensive skill… Varejao, and others like him, have to jump at every opportunity, not for wins, but for money.

Average Joe sports fan says, ‘I would never turn down $6 million for the chance to play with LeBron, Shaw, and the Cavs”. Yes you would. If the Memphis Grizzles offered you $11 million, you'd better take it... or else your agent should be fired and you should be punched in the neck!

* While discussing free agency, here’s my preferred shopping list for the Cavs (based on money, options, etc available… not just a wish list):

1) Ron Artest - would be almost as big of a steal as the Shaq trade at just under $6 million (mid-level exception).

2) Charlie Villanueva - Detroit is after him in a big way, but he would probably be the best fit for the Cavs on all levels of capability and chemistry.

3) Rasheed Wallace - older and erratic, but experienced. With the supporting cast, won't need to be a star, plus he's 6'10 and can hit 3s... a perfect fit to stretch the defense.

4) Antonio McDyess - older, but replaces Varejao's rebounding, plus can hit the 14-16 foot jumper.
